Central Mississippi Robotics was incorporated as a 501(c) 3 non-profit on May 17, 2010. What began as group of parents forming a community team in 2006 has grown into a mission of sharing and introducing FIRST to as many individuals as possible. We coached our first FIRST LEGO League team during the Nanoquest season in 2006. It did not take very long to understand what an amazing program FIRST is and how it positively impacts youth by promoting teamwork, encouraging discovery, and uncovering the kids' innate problem solving skills. The best part of the program is that the youth have fun while doing it. FIRST has mastered the art of turning the hard work of a robotics season into a labor of love. As an added bonus, team members are developing lifelong friendships with teammates, coaches, and mentors as well as acquiring skills that will benefit them as they mature and enter the "real world."
From 2006 until 2013 we coached a FIRST LEGO League team, Techno Warriors. Beginning in 2009, we added a FIRST Tech Challenge team 3486 - Techno Warriors Advanced because several of the FIRST LEGO League team members were too old for the program. What keeps us involved in the FIRST robotics program is its commitment to the developing the future leaders of tomorrow. Witnessing the growth of students as they progress through the program is priceless. The goal of our non-profit is to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to youth in our community through the FIRST® robotics program. None of what we do would be possible without the support of our parents, the dedication of our students and our amazing sponsors.
Our commitment to the youth of Mississippi has not wavered. In 2017, Teresa Lanum accepted the volunteer role as the FIRST LEGO League Challenge and FIRST LEGO League Explore Program Delivery Partner in Mississippi.
